Winner of the Gleaner Oils Perpetual Challenge Trophy 2015
Doune & Dunblane Agricultural Society
Best exhibit in the Crook and Stick Section
Mr Tom Stewart of Falkirk was the proud winner in the best carved stick section of the 2015 Gleaner Oils Perpetual Challenge trophy.
There were approximately 150 entries at this year’s Doune & Dunblane Show held on Sat 4th July.
“This one is carved from coloured buffalo horn - I work with other materials too such as rams horns and wood,” said Tom. “Buffalo horn is a very hard material which has to be boiled to produce the first bend and afterwards jacks and clamps are used to complete the finished item”.
Tom has been carving sticks for almost 10 years and is also a judge at other agricultural shows in Scotland.
‘This is Gleaner’s first year sponsoring the challenge trophy and we’re delighted to hear of Tom’s success – many congratulations to him and long may he continue to craft beautiful sticks,” said Dyanne Hull, Commercial Manager at Gleaner Elgin.
