Having now been operating for 70 years’, the Gleaner of today has developed and expanded from our beginnings serving the marine and agricultural industries.

    Gleaner Oils started trading in 1954 as an “Authorised Distributor” for B.P Scotland Ltd (Formerly Scottish Oils) and Shell Mex Ltd (Later known as Shell U.K Oil Ltd).

    Gleaner Oils is appointed a “Shell Distributor” for Shell Marketing Ltd covering the North and North East of Scotland including the Northern and Western Islands.

    1977

    Gleaner Oils Highland is founded. Gleaner Oils Highland was a subsidiary of Gleaner Oils and operated from Dingwall and Lairg. In 1977 Gleaner Oils Highland was appointed an “All Product Distributor” for Shell U.K Oil Ltd.

    In 1989 another subsidiary, Gleaner Oils Argyll and Bute Ltd was opened, having been acquired from Argyll and Bute Oils. Gleaner Oils Argyll and Bute Ltd is also appointed an “All Product Distributor” operating from Connel, Mull, Ardrishaig, Islay and Dunoon.

    In 1994 Gleaner Oils Highland and Gleaner Oils Argyll and Bute are merged to form Gleaner Oils ltd.

    After a 2 year training process Gleaner Oils is selected as an 'Investor in People', becoming the 1st company in Moray to achieve the accolade.

    Gleaner Oils is one of the first companies in the UK to Receive the BSI standard BS 7750 accreditation for its high environmental standards.

    In 1996 Gleaner Oils opend its Fife depot in Cowdenbeath. The depot based on Broad Street operated as a Shell Gas distributor, known as The Gleaner Gas Center and was open 24 hours a day

    1997

    Gleaner Oils network of filling stations was founded. Within 3 years (2000) the network had expanded to over 50 company and independently owned sites across the Highlands & islands, Aberdeenshire and Argyll & Bute.

    Gleaner Oils starts to offer Autogas from 20 filling stations across the Highlands & Islands.


    On behalf of Shell Gas Ltd, Gleaner Oils becomes the exclusive Scottish Distributor for the domestic and small commercial LP Bulk Gas markets.

    Calor Gas Scotland names Gleaner Oils as principle dealer for Scotland.

    On 1st February 2012 Gleaner Oils Ltd became an independent fuel distributor. However would remain a distributor of Shell Lubricants

    Gleaner Oils celebrated 60 years in business in 2014 since their start up in 1954. This year also saw the granddaughter of the founder take full ownership of the business.

    There were several additions to the Gleaner Family in 2017. The purchase of Silgo Lubricants, a company with over 35 year’s lubricants experience. Along with three service stations, Bridgend, Seapark and Walkers.

    The comany name was changed to 'Gleaner Limted' to reflect the diversity in the growing business' service offerings. In 2019, Gleaner also celebrated the anniversary of turning '65 Years Young'.
