Upcoming Racing Talent Matt McQueen

As an up and coming racing talent, we are pleased to have the opportunity to support and sponsor Matt McQueen.
At the age of 13, Matt began karting, competing in the non MSA (Motorsport Association) Championship at his local kart club NSKC in Golspie. Matt showed his natural ability and went onto win his first novice trophy. As the season progressed, Matt became quicker and more confident with the kart and won the championship that year.

Matt’s win showed a gift in karting, and he was soon bought an upgraded kart and engine. Matt quickly got his MSA race licence, and by March 2018 began racing as a novice in the Junior Rotax Class in Golspie, where he once again won the best novice trophy.

As the year went on, Matt gained more confidence, which showed in his lap times. After 6 meetings, Matt was off his novice plates and started getting good results and podium rankings. Because of Matt’s height, he was unable to continue in his class, and was moved up to the Senior Rotax, meaning Matt had to get a Kart National A licence.
At the annual awards night, Matt won the Gleaner trophy for best junior novice, most improves junior driver and the Ironside Shield for Best Rookie Driver.

Our Retail Manager for Branded Sites, Gary Coutts, was fortunate to have been able to visit Matt at Sutherland Arms Garage, Brora, owned by Matt’s grandparents Tommy and Hazel Sutherland. Gary was shown around the new kart and learnt about its design and features.

We wish the best of luck to Matt with the 2019 season, and look forward to seeing how Matt progresses in his new class.
