On 25th May 2018 EU data protection legislation will come into effect. This new legislation will affect how consumer personal data is handled by businesses.
The ‘General Data Protection Regulation’ is a new European Data Protection Regulation. This new legislation provides citizens of the EU with greater control over their personal data.
As with the current UK Data Protection Legislation which this new regulation replaces, consumers have the right to know what data a company holds about them, how it is used, and the right to be “forgotten” should you wish your personal data to be erased.
Further information on the regulation can be found on the EU GDPR website and the UK Information Commissioner’s website.
