Gleaner Ltd fuel up to beat £13,000 of fundraising in 13 months for second ‘Charity of the Year’

Elgin-based Gleaner Ltd will take on a series of fundraising initiatives throughout 2020 and early 2021 in aid of the charity, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Ltd, in support of a colleague whose son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2018.

The service station network has chosen JDRF as its nominated charity of the year and will help the organisation by raising vital funds for them to continue supporting those diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as well as researching treatments and a cure.

Nicola-Ann Braint, who works at Gleaner’s head office in Elgin, Moray, started fundraising for JDRF after her son Jack (9) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2018 after becoming seriously ill.

Fundraising activities are essential to ensuring the charity can continue providing important services. JDRF relies on the support of corporate partners and volunteers to raise vital funds.

Kicking off the year of fundraising pursuits, Gleaner will be giving away an Amazon Kindle Fire on its Service Station Facebook page. Colleagues are also in the process of organising in-store fundraising events such as bake sales and lucky squares competitions.

Retail Area Manager Normal MacKay will be closing the 13 months of fundraising in April 2021 by running the London Marathon for JDRF.

In 2019 Gleaner raised £13,000 for its first ‘Charity of the Year’ Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland. This year they are extending the year of fundraising to 13 months and are hoping to beat the total raised in 2019.
