The winners of the Gleaner Garden Party Charity Prize-draw have been announced following public nominations throughout the summer.

The competition was aimed at giving back to local communities, by gifting £250 to local charities or community groups. Members of the public were encouraged to come along to the Gleaner Oils marquee at either the Perth, Black Isle or Grantown shows, to nominate a local charity of their choice. There was an overwhelming response to the competition with over 60 nominations being made.

This year’s winners were: Black Isle Cares (B.I.C) in Ross-shire and Alzheimer Scotland. The winners were chosen at random from all the nominations.

Sheena Ross a spokeswomen for B.I.C has said that the prize-money was “a lovely surprise” for the charity and will help them work towards their aim of developing a local homecare service and providing hot meals for elderly people in need.

An Alzheimer Scotland representative, Adele Newlands, has stated that the prize-money will go towards developing their efforts in the Black Isle region, with a portion of the money going towards the Black Isle Dementia Café (D-Caff).
