Gleaner Oils, the Elgin-based fuel and oil distribution business, has won one of Scotland’s top business awards – the Large Rural Family Business Award, hosted by the Herald newspaper.

The company was praised by the judges for the support it provides to its employees and the vital services it delivers to communities and businesses the length and breadth of Scotland.

Commenting, Managing Director David Todd said: “Everyone across the business is delighted to have won the award and we are particularly honoured to have been chosen by our peers in Scotland’s vibrant family business sector.  We have been overwhelmed by the congratulations we have received from the clients and communities we serve.

“The award is a great tribute to the hard work and service by our staff who will go above and beyond to ensure fuel and services are readily available.  This is vital for the communities we serve, as some are often remote and isolated. It is just as important that we provide a reliable, high quality service throughout the year to tourists and businesses.

“We have committed £3.5m during the last two years to a major investment programmme, and are continuing to reinvest in the business.  We have added new tankers and vehicles, upgraded forecourts and depots, invested in a new IT system and have a continuous programme of staff training and development.”

Founded in 1954, Gleaner Oils owns 9 fuel stations and 11 depots, stretching from Mull in the West to Cowdenbeath in the East, Aberdeen and Skiach in the North, and supplies 60 other stations.  The company is an authorised Shell lubricants distributor, supplies a wide range of products, including agricultural, domestic, industrial, marine, petrol and LPG, and has around 16,000 regular business customers.
